Cat-like scratches on my white Phalaenopsis orchid
Default Cat-like scratches on my white Phalaenopsis orchid

Help please. This is my first orchid. Was given to me last year with beautiful white flowers. I watered once a week and all was well. A few months ago, I saw that the roots were turning brown and soft so I followed a YouTube instruction and replanted it in a plastic pot with rePotme brand - Phalaenopsis Monterrey Dark Imperial Orchid Mix.
Then the scratches started to appear. (I have no cat, btw) .
the scratches are increasing.

I have not fertilized my plant so far.
There is no fungus that I can see.
I dry well at the root of the leaves after watering
The roots are green and stiff
Leaves are ok except for one that looks a bit wrinkly and soft
I soak the pot in water once a week and drain well.
Most of the roots are on the top outside.
The scratches are dry and cream color

I will be so grateful if someone could tell me what is causing these scratches.

First, Welcome!

A photo or two would help. While some have said that you need 5 posts to upload photos, I have see quite a few cases where new members are successful in uploading photos. To do that, from the Quick Reply dialog box, choose the Go Advanced button. Then scroll down just a bit to Additional Options, and click Manage Attachments. You'll get a pop-up window (make sure that pop-ups are enabled in your browser). You can then select photos from your computer, and click Upload when you're through selecting. They'll show up in that Manage Attachments window. finish your message, and Submit Reply.

Roberta, thank you very much. I tried to add more than one and tried again following your instructions but the
Pics did not upload. Do they need to be approved first?

No need to approve... you may have to hit that 5-post "barrier". You now have 2, so you're almost there. Or, put them on a "cloud" drive such as Google Drive or OneDrive, and set up a "share" link for them. You can then put the link in your post (no limitations there)

that uploaded fine. Thanks! It does look like the leaves got banged around. Damage looks mechanical, not like any sort of disease or insect. I think the plant will be fine, the scratches are dry.

Roberta, I’ve been very careful and nothing has damaged the plant. Even when I replanted it, I was very careful. The scratches are showing more over the weeks (after the repotting)

Thanks you. Esther

Hopefully, some other members will jump on on this one, I have not seen this in any of my plants. Especially the fact that they seem to be increasing, is concerning.

Cockroaches or crickets could do this.
