To rule out "wildlife" maybe isolate under some sort of enclosure? (There's no place on the planet except maybe Antarctica that is guaranteed free of arthropods... they were around before we were and will be around long after we're gone, and they're often sneaky) Perhaps unpot to make sure there aren't any "surprises" lurking, Phals aren't picky about getting unpotted before they're theoretically ready, after all.
