Also important to use a smaller pot for the remaining piece.

Since the pot in the photo is too large but it is clear, you could pot the remaining piece at the bottom with only as much medium as you need (5-7 cm / 2-3”) and let the upper 2/3 - 3/4s of the pot act as a greenhouse.
