Color break - Virus? Genetics?

Hi everyone,

My family recently acquired this orchid and I absolutely love the random patterns on it. Unfortunately, I went down a little bit of a rabbit hole after finding out that the patterns I love so much could signify a potential virus. I know that there's no way of knowing if the orchid is virused without a lab test but I would still love some opinions on this orchid.

Do you think the patterns are genetics or color breakage caused by a virus?

I believe those are bred to have those striations. Nothing to be concerned about.

Thank you for the reassurance Ray! I just let out a huge sigh of relief. I'll be able to properly enjoy her now with a lighter heart.

I agree. I have definitely seen Phals that are bred with those variations. Yours is very pretty.

Those striations brought a huge price a few short years ago.

"Harlequin type" is the general descriptive term for Phals bred for the irregular markings of various kinds - stripes, spots, random patterns.

Ooh good to know estación_seca, I've wanted something similar for ages and I feel like I'm quite late to the orchid game so these are probably a lot more commonplace now.
