Thats good to know. I have both oncidiums and phals but more of oncidiums than phals. So probably I can think of investing in a heating pad for the few phals I have. Also I have few oncidium/cattleya/vanda seedlings on one of the window sills. Do you think they would need heating mats as well?

We also have Santa Ana conditions right now so outside humidity is 8-17% during the day. A few times a day we open up, let the house cool down for 20-30 minutes, then close up and turn on the humidifier. The phals don’t notice.

But, heat mats would be a very easy way to boost the temperature for your phals. I have a couple and use them in January-March.
Yes Dimples I'm watering every 2-3 days or when media is dry. 3-4 of my other phals on the window sill have developed similar reddish leaf color. So its pretty obvious it must be the cold. I've moved them out from the window sill. I'm going to open up the heating vent now that I've moved the phals away from window sill. Hopefully this should help atleast until I get heat mats.

Oncs won't need the heat mat. Vandas probably will benefit. Catts might depending on ancestry. Anything with substantial C. dowiana or lueddemanniana ancestry should stay warm.
