Browning leaf tips on psh cochleata
Default Browning leaf tips on psh cochleata

Hi all,
I am not sure what is happening with my psh cochleata. When I got it, it only had minor yellowing and a couple of small spots. Things have advanced since then. It was originally placed away from receiving any sun. As it was getting worse, I moved it to a slightly sunnier spot. It still got worse, so I moved it back. I try to be consistent with watering, allowing it to dry out some. I have also sprayed with copper fungicide to no avail. I am thinking of getting Thymol for it, but am otherwise at a loss on how to help it.

The first picture is from when it was received (8/17), and the last two are from today. I appreciate any suggestions on what to do.

These are water hogs. I stand mine, received from SVO like yours, in dishes of water. I think that's your problem.

I suggest not using fungicide unless you know exactly which fungus you have, and whether that is susceptible to the fungicide you chose. In any case I doubt you have a fungus problem.

Hmm, interesting.

Does cochleata not give symptoms of underwatering such as wrinkled pb like an oncidium or dehydrated leaves before going brown? I know some orchids can give a fit if they are not in the right conditions, but I didn't think this was one of them. (I'm not doubting you, just genuinely want to more about this orchid's behavior.) I am in humid central Florida, and was watering it every third day.

As far as thinking I have a fungus, it mainly stems from one of the leaves having a pattern in the browned portion. Copper just happened to be what I had on hand and I really don't want the browning to progress further.

You are in a high humidity area, more prone to fungus. Mine do what yours are doing if I underwater. Perhaps ask people at an orchid society near you, though I've met a number of Florida gardeners who use fungicide almost like water.
