Solution to All pest problems???

Could this be just too easy???

Would putting any plant with any pest problem into a tank full of CO2 for a day solve everything in one shot ?

Very interesting concept. I'd love to know if this technique would work on orchid pests: scale, spider mites, mealy bugs... and how the plants would fare with such a treatment. Keep us posted!

So far it worked like a charm... I managed to kill all slugs and all millipedes in my tank... I can't see why it wouldn't work on other pests. The extra shot of CO2 won't hurt your plants either... if anything, it will add to the growth.

Where do you obtain dry ice??

Look in phone book under industrial supply or under Welding Equipment and Supplies.

I bought it from Praxair, I think they're everywhere.

Sometimes they use dry ice in machine shops to fit metal pieces with low tolerances...they cool it, insert the piece, then as it expands it will tighten.

No wonder sometimes I cant break my things apart.

Seriously though, I have never had to use your method, but It seems perfectly rational to me. I refer anyone with a bug problem to your post on the CO2 method. Just hoping everyone realizes they should take out all desirable animals first.

Though what happens to thins like earthworms. They are not undesirable, so do they get killed off too?

Strange thing is that I still have earthworms in my tank... but even if they would die - collateral damage

I know this is a much older thread, but I was toying with the idea of trying it for my fungus gnat problem I am having. I've read that sometimes changing potting mediums is called for to get rid of them, I'd like to avoid having to do that during the winter season. Think this would work on fungus gnats? I don't see why not?! Now I just have to figure out how to seal my orchidarium since it is not air tight...perhaps some duct tape?
