Default Sick Phal

Hey everyone,

I’ve been on here before but it’s been a while so I forgot my old acct info. Anyways I have sick orchid that I believe either has a bacterial or fungus infection. It started on the tips of the leaves and spread on up quickly. I cut off the bad part of the leaves up to the healthy tissue and added grounded cinnamon to the cuts. I brought it out of my sunroom to be in air conditioning and out of the sun. I really don’t want to loose this orchid! She is my top favorite out of all time. Am I doing on the right things?

I would ***guess*** it's the bacterial infection, erwinia.

If that was my plant, I'd treat it with a copper-based treatment like Phyton 27 or Southern Ag Liquid Copper.

Thanks for the quick response. I was leaning towards that when I was trying to look up diseases. I’ll try that and hopefully I caught it in time. It looks healthy other than the damaged leaves I cut off. This is my first time having a problem like this and I’ve kept them for about 6 years now.

It could also be severe sunburn. How much sun did it get? Where do you live? Erwinia is generally a disease of high temperatures, very high humidity and stagnant air.

I live in Georgia and I was gone for a week on vacation. It has been particularly hot lately here and we normally have moderate humidity. It’s a sunroom but shaded. I’ve read up on this disease and it’s disappointing. The phal is far away from my others. I hope it’s just sunburn but I’m not going to give up. I will monitor it everyday and see what happens.
