Is this wispy web from fungus? Or an insect?
Hi, I am fairly new to orchids, but the ones I have are doing well. Until now, that is. I bought a few plugs/seedlings and potted them in bark/sphagnum moss, and I just discovered that a few of them have developed wispy webs around the base of the plant. The web has also developed between pieces of bark and in the sphagnum moss. The orchid plant and leaves seem to be doing fine, but I am wondering if I am catching it pretty early, since I look at them every day (lol). I don't see any signs of insects on the leaves. Picture of web at base of one of the orchids is attached.
I dug around to see if there are bugs and the only one I found was sort of round, beige, and very tiny, 1 mm or smaller. It was crawling on a root. I was not able to take a picture.
It has been fairly humid in my apartment (50% or more) and I am keeping these seedlings a little on the damp side until they get more established.
Does this look like some kind of filamentous mold or could that tiny insect (and friends) be making this web? If it is an insect, what could it be (I have looked at common pests and not sure which one it could be) and how would I get rid of it (if I needed to)?
Thank you!
