Rotting pseudobulb on Dendrobium - what to do?
Default Rotting pseudobulb on Oncidium - what to do?

This infected or rotting pseudobulb does not seem to be getting worse but I would like to know if I should remove it. I first sprayed it with hydrogen peroxide, then later with dithane M-45 and 1 week later with copper fungacide.

The new leaf from this bulb is fine, it has nothing. Should I remove the bulb and the leaf entirely?

Thank you for any suggestions and help.

Well, first of all not a Dendrobium... perhaps something in the Oncidium tribe? If it isn't getting worse, time to leave it alone... you have bombarded it with some rather heavy artillery. Time to just observe. Old pseudobulbs do just eventually shrivel - they give their energy to the plant.

Question... how long since it was last potted? It looks very crowded in the pot, lots of roots that look pretty good. Can you tell us more about your growing conditions?

Yes Roberta, I mixed up my oncidium (the one in the photo) with a dendrobium that I have on my lanai.

I've added 2 photos, 1 of the entire plant and one of the roots. I bought this plant in Sept and I agree that it does look like it needs repotting.

Thanks for the suggestion and your help.

You have a beautiful new growth, definitely repot. (I think that it has needed repotting for a year or two...)
