{{sigh}} The downside of living in paradise. Gracias for the reminder. There's no "on the fence" here in Witchin World. Mess with me and mine, game on.

I'm feeling particularly itchy fingered about packrats lately. So far this year, $500 spent in riding lawnmower repair due to their housing choices. And yesterday AGAIN mower wouldn't start. Completely destroyed wiring harness AGAIN. If I could catch one, I swear I'd pick it up with my teeth and shake it like a terrier.

The old seesaw bucket is undefeated for rats. I got three in one bucket last night.

They sell all sorts of teeter totters online and you just fill a bucket 1/3 and attach the little ramp.

I use peanut butter and chocolate syrup as bait

I've made a couple of those, and not had much success. Recently got two "barn cats" for the space, and they've been decimating the mouse population, but so far not caught a packrat.

Interesting though... I had a 13 gallon wastebasket next to a work bench that had about a pound of grass seed in bottom, forgot to cover it. Next day four mice had swan-dived into the wastebasket and couldn't get out. Go figure.

Important note for those reading this: I do NOT live in a mouse-infested house! I'm discussing a barn type structure, feed in trough for a cow and goat, chickens in a coop with a 5 gallon hanging feeder, horses eating grain, stacks of hay. When ya have six acres of woods and another 30 acres of woods to each side, a bunch of animals, mousies AND predators happens. And yes, all my feed is stored in metal containers with lids. Extra bags of feed are stored in two non-working freezers. For some reason, I really felt the need to also share this part. Probably because I can hear my mother rolling in her grave that I would share such a horrible thing. Oh yeah! Blacksnakes...

ww, someone invented a bucket flip lid style rat trap.

They are absolutely brilliant.
You cannot make them yourself, they are engineered to catch rats the best way but it is essentially just a plastic lid on a bin.

'm sure DC has a link to what he uses. I would have bookmakred it when I saw it but I will never need one here, I know it was cheap enough like under $10 to buy one over making one for sure.

can be found on amazon.

The key to trapping pack rats is putting out lots of traps all the time in places they walk. I found one of their superhighways along a low wall. I put a Havahart there with no bait. They walk into it regularly. I'm talking 4-5 a week. I only got one in a water trap that bred mosquitos very quickly.

Thanks Shadeflower... I have one. Plus a couple of roller type ones I made. I've used the "walk the plank" kind like DC uses. Mice are smart... ya gotta keep changing things up.

The very worst is in our chicken coop, because of... chickens. I've caught one in the bucket flip lid. A chicken, not a mouse.

My next plan of action, after young raccoon season is over, is to put chickens in the enclosed aviary for the night and lock the cats up in the coop for a couple of nights. Now THAT would be a good video!

I discovered a field mouse in the kitchen!
But a reason to get a new gadget.
The bucket trap seems excessive so I have opted for this bad boy, seems to have good reviews
