Black spots -- Fungus?
Question Black spots -- Fungus?

Hi all!

Looking for some help diagnosing and treating these orchids. Orchid 1 is a phaius that has a number of tiny black dots with mild yellowing. Orchid 2 is an oncidium; the photo shows a yellowed leaf that also has some tiny black spots, though they are harder to see than in photo 1. For what it's worth, orchid 2 came to me very dehydrated and I've been nursing it back to health. Could this be a fungus? How would you treat? I've been using neem oil but I'm not sure it is helping. Thank you!

Black spots -- Fungus? Male
Default

Both Phaius and Oncidium grow fine when temperatures and humidity are not perfect, but they are very prone to spots like this. Unless the black areas enlyarge and kill entire leaves I would not treat at all.

Fungus is very uncommon in home environments unless humidity is higher than most people prefer. Neem oil should not be used too frequently. It can suffocate plants, too. Read the label.
