RIP didierii - Orchid Board

Unfortunately my Angraecum didierii fell apart today.
I am quite sad it finally happened.
I normally know when I do something wrong but this guy has baffled me from day 1.
It was weak from the start, actually produced 2 keiki's even though I just wanted it to perk up first but it never did, I kept it very dry in its final months but first one keiki dropped off then finally the whole thing just turned brown and rotted.
So rest in pieces. Took over 6 months for it to succumb in my care, conditions were good I thought. Now I am debating whether I got unlucky or if it would happen again.
I think I will leave this one and focus on Angraecum leonis which is doing much better with the same conditions. Shame but not one for me it seems.

Petrens Orchid Shop have really nice Angraecoids if you want a replacement.
Solid plants and they have good suppliers.

They're not too far from Holland if you wanna pay them a visit.

What I shame that you lost it, and in such a slow drawn out way too. I tend to be very stubborn when I lose an orchid that I've never grown before. I try to figure out what went wrong, and usually try again on the off chance that I just had bad luck the first time. If I kill the replacement plant, then I seriously consider giving up... So I'd suggest that you find yourself a replacement plant and hope for the best!

Mr.F, thanks for bringing up a vendor I hadn't heard about yet, I may have to make a test order if I see anything interesting!

I have used petrens a few times. Have received some nice orchids but have also received my very worst examples from them so out of my list of vendors they are at number 10!
Althogh I have not ordered an angraecum from them, I will always be slightly dubious of petrens.

The last time they sent me an email saying they would pick the very best plant they could, what I received looked like it had been fished out the compost lol.
Considering they went to the effort to email me directly to say they would pick their best specimen and it turned out the worst plant I'd ever received I didn't even bother asking for a replacement.

I got it from Schwerter in Germany but I have been very happy with Schwerter, they are amongst the best shop I have used.

I wouldn't blame the shop it came from especially the amount of time I have had it! I reckon if I had kept it mounted I would have done better but I am not a daily maintenance kind of guy so if that's the only way to grow the didierii it just isn't for me.
