Oh geez Rid. That was gruesome. That shouldn't be shown without 'warning' in advance for children and adults alike. That was horrible.
But now jokes aside, I agree with Ray about possibility of rodent. Most likely need to check on what sort of animals appear around there. Some grass-hoppers/locusts are really big - and they could possibly gnaw into a bulb like that.
I've never seen chunks taken out of pseudobulbs like that before - not even from internet pics. Will definitely follow this thread - hopefully can find out what did that.
Like DC's current situation - something eating flower spikes. This definitely means war.
My dog got ahold of one of my three Rossioglossum Rawdon Jesters that I got for my experiment, and it looked a lot like that when he was done with it haha. I had to go back and order another from Hausermann.
BUt seriously, it could be just about anything that eats plants. Spray some pesticide if you're worried it might happen again. It may or may not do any good, but you'll probably never know what ate your plant.

Thanks everybody. I showed a picture to the guy who works at my local orchid greenhouse, and he seemed sure it was squirrels. Definitely have a ton of squirrels.
I picked up a new maxillaria while I was there, couldn’t help myself.
