Ok, so what happened here?

This is one my latest purchases. I bought three orchids 4 weeks ago, the Paphiopedilum Callosum one of them.

It seems like it's underdeveloped or something, deformed.
It's missing the pouch, or rather it's sort of shrunk and shriveled.

Is this a one time thing or? What could have gone wrong?

Sometimes stuff like that just happens. Future growths should yield normal flowers.

Did it come in the post like that? Hard to say what the actual cause was for it. It's possibe that you'll never have that happening again with that plant ------ so consider it lucky for us to have seen this interesting effect !!!!!!!!

Especially with Paphs, the first flower can be strange. As the plant gets bigger the flowers get better.

I was going to say the same thing, but ES beat me to it. Sometimes a plant's first bloom is of poor quality or strangely developed. I bet the next one will be normal.

Well, it's actually it's second flower. Because when I bought it, it had the old dried out one hanging there, and the guy cut it off. (I can't say what the other flower looked like as it was completely dried up and shriveled.) I got this one because I saw that it had a new flower bud coming.

But yeah, it can very well be a young plant that will get better in time...

It sure is a funny unusual sight to look at.

No this one didn't come in the post. I actually went to the nursery and picked this one out. I saw that it had a new flower bud coming so I thought "cool, I'll be seeing a flower soon then."

Sure is funny to look at. Weirdest thing ever.
