Slc. Crystele Smith leaf spotting?

Hello!

My cattleya has some leaf spotting on the undersides of the leaf. I have always given this orchid probably a bit too much sunlight - it's always had a good amount of purple blush. I'm not sure if this is sun spots/freckles or if it's a bacterial or fungal issue. Thoughts?

The purple looks like pigmentation from high light. The other spots look like mechanical damage - being scraped, bumped, squeezed.

Doesn't look like disease to me. Give it a little less light and see how the new growths come out. If they come out normal, and I bet they will, you've got nothing to worry about.

I agree with the other members here too. It doesn't appear to be something nasty.

But - in any case - the usual goal is to have suitable temperatures and temperature ranges, and suitable lighting levels and lighting duration, and other conditions.

It looks like your orchid is growing satisfactorily, which is great, and pigmentation is quite ok.

There is another orchid leaf seen in the pics that appears to have a brown patch at the base of the leaf. Not sure what that is due to.

Gentle air-movement is beneficial as well - to cut down on (or to eliminate) chances of certain kinds of fungal activity on leaves.

You occasionally apply mag-cal treatments and fertiliser treatments, right?

Glad to hear it's fine! I fertilize my whole collection regularly with K-Lite. I will post pictures in the AM, but that leaf grew in a peculiar fashion. I'm suspecting due to it's hybridization being an Sophrolaeliocattleya. It seems as though the leaf grew with some layers of plant tissue missing.

DOB - thanks for posting those pics.

Just take a close look at those circled regions - to see what those bumps are.

For now, maintain nice growing temperature, and provide some gentle air-movement if the orchid hasn't got it already.

And keep on the lookout of for insects or little things that could be attacking the leaf.

Could that be sunburn? It looks just like that.

Certainly could be ES. The high pigmentation suggests relatively high light levels received. Agree with you.
