I need your help. Does this look like a virus? Or is it just lack of humidity doing a number on the older leaves?
This is Oncidium Aka Baby ‘Raspberry Chocolate.’ I know Oncidiums are known for having black spots on their leaves when grown in low humidity, but these look different from that.
The new growths seem to be good and healthy so far.
Only a test could tell for sure - if the test kit covers that sort of thing.
Otherwise, could possibly be fungal. So if there's no further spread, and it just stays like that ------ then just keep providing good air-circulation and air-flow, and maybe all ok. Or can just spray with some systematic fungicide at any time.
I'd lean toward it being fungal. The round areas could even be from a sucking insect.
To test for Orchid Fleck virus, a lab test from someplace like Critter Creek would be necessary. The test strips only work for Odontoglossum Ringspot virus and Cymbidium Mosaic virus. But I think the odds favor a fungal/bacterial/insect (environmental) issue.
Thank you so much for your replies! It did not have the marks when I first got it. You know, I did have a plant nearby that had thrips so maybe they took a few bites out of this Oncidium?
Hope you are right that it is fungal. I will crack open the windows more and keep an eye on the plant 👀 thank you all!
