I’ve read, not done, that an extra boost of calcium in spring wheat they start a lot of new growth can help. I think it was on AOS website but not sure. Might check it out.

City water or RO? If they are getting city water (and Catts do just fine with it in my experience), there's no shortage of calcium where you live.

Jeff - try hitting that 'infection' with something like agri-fos.

I use city water for nearly all my orchids. I haven't heard them complain (that I know of).

I'll try a couple more fungicides (like agri-fos) and see. I'm tired of loosing spikes on this one... thanks!!

I'm backing off on saying it's black rot, after going back and re-reading your original post. Have you checked your water's pH?
