Default Den Bug Nest and Spots on Leaves

I hate the wonderful highs and lows that come with getting a new orchid. I got this beautiful D. Thongchai Gold 'Toon' at an orchid show this weekend, and now something is wrong.

It had some kind of wispy nest with little white things in it, which I assume to be spider mites? I took the pic after I blasted it with a bug spray, so it's wet in the photos. And then it also has a yellow leaf with a black spot. I moved it away from the other orchid I also got this weekend. Please don't let them both get sick!

I gave the nest thing a quick blast of garden best spray I use on my regular indoor plants. I assume I need to chop off the bad leaf and give it some cinnamon. But what else do you recommend. I really love this orchid and I don't want it to die. To date, when a chid in my possession gets "something" I am unable to save it. Help me turn around my back luck!!!!

From the picture and your description, it sounds like it's a spider egg sac. I don't think mites do things like this. If it really is a spider nest, then it should be relatively easy to take off the plant. You can just scrape it off.
The leaf looks like something bacterial, but I can't tell you what to do this I've never had problems like this. There are other people here who can probably give you good advice. But I think your plant will be fine.

I'll post this same reply in the beginner board and here just in case you're only looking at one or the other:

So I may have overreacted. Or not.

I went to town, got two new pots, alcohol, cotton balls. I did one in the kitchen sink and one in the bathroom tub. They had been soaking in water while I was gone to loosen. Oddly enough, the one that seemed FINE beforehand had little bugs hopping around in the water and one very tiny thing that had like 100 legs. HUH???

Anyway, I took out all the old medium, doused the roots in alcohol (is that bad?), repotted, and then wiped down all the leaves with alcohol, too. The chids might be drunk now...

Then, as an extra precaution, I sprayed my phals down with the bug killer. Then I took all the trash outside even though it's raining to get it OUT of my house. BOOOO. My orchids have been nice and healthy for so long. Sigh. But I think it will be OK. (crosses fingers again) I'll be sure to keep you updated. But I have a strong feeling that the den will bud blast all 20 buds from all the disruption. I've been reading on here that dens are picky...
