Black / Yellow / See through dots on Oncidium
Default Black / Yellow / See through dots on Oncidium

Hello, I'm Eric and this is my first post.

I am hoping to get some advice on what is going on with this oncidium and if it is potentially a danger to my other orchids. It has small black dots on the leaves and in some places see through/yellow spots (see pics).

I have it currently under grow lights in a room with 40-60% humidity and a ceiling fan on medium for circulation. I have discovered a mealy bug or two on other orchids in the room but certainly no infestation (I am experienced dealing with mealy bugs). This plant came with these spots but seems to have gotten worse since moving it into the room (as opposed to in front of my living room window when in bloom).

I have checked out the link to bacterial and fungal diseases and no diseases quite match. I have read that some orchids get these spots for inconclusive reasons but haven't found a pic to verify that is what this is. I also have a brassidia with spots, to a much lesser degree, and they haven't gotten worse since moving into the room.

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Any commentary on my room or the health of the orchid in general is welcome.

Thanks in advance new friends...

Welcome to Orchid Board!

The clearish spots look like mealybug or some other bug bites. The brownish spotting looks typical of the way my Oncidium leaves tend to look when there isn't enough air flow. None of it looks horrible... perhaps bacterial? Hopefully someone more versed will come by soon. Mostly posting as a BUMP.

Nice set-up. Love that color of blue.

Thank You for the advice, the bump, and the kind words! I have increased airflow to the top shelf by adding a small fan and am inspecting for mealies daily.
