Tiny white dots all over the potting mixture
Default Tiny white dots all over the potting mixture

Please help! My "zns murasaki komachi" has tiny white dots alllll over the potting medium. I have googled a ton and cannot figure out what it is. I tried flushing it with hydrogen peroxide and then water two weeks in a row, but don't see a difference. Today I sprayed fungicide and then flushed it with water. I also moved it from a space with no air flow to somewhere with much more

Any idea what this is, and if there's any chance of saving it?

Are you sure that the tiny dots are not just flecks of perlite dust?
That's what it looks like to me from the photo. The plant does not look too bad...
wishing you good growing

Definitely looks like a mold to me. Your fungicide will likely do the trick for now.

I definitely don't like using hydrogen peroxide on roots anymore. That's if the roots got the treatment too. The hydrogen peroxide can set the roots and the plants back. Might not kill the plant, but the plant can take quite a while to recover (eg. weeks/months) and start growing again from an H2O2 treatment.

Using a fungicide recommended for orchids is good.

This is a very good move. Moving to a space with better air flow is good.

I’ve got an identical fungal growth in a pot with a Phalaenopsis that had a lot of root death after transitioning from moss to bark. It seems to be harmless. It’s growing on the dead roots, but the Phal is doing really well and has pushed out a fresh crop of healthy roots and a nice spike of flowers so I’m just letting it run its course. I’m assuming the fungal growths will disappear once decay of the old roots is complete.

If the plant remains healthy in the presence of the fungus, then that's excellent. Sometimes have to watch out for issues if other fungus coat roots and media .... and making them hydrophobic.
