Does my VERY new pseudobulb (Zygo hybrid) stand a chance? Male
Default Does my VERY new pseudobulb (Zygo hybrid) stand a chance?

So the other day I decided to repot my bollopetalum midnight blue orchid (zygopetalum x Bollea), the root system was stellar but took SO LONG to detangle as it was super root bound and their roots are wicked brittle, any who, fast forward to now, I expected some damage that I did not foresee to the root system which is totally okay. I am curious however though if you all think that the new pseudobulb (literally a tiny nub) that was growing is going to survive, the tip has turned brown but the whole thing hasn't died yet so I'm hoping it was just a bit of adjustment damage? I also just noticed today that there is also a flower spike coming out of the "newest mature PB". Anywho let me know what you all think and I hope everyone has a splendid day!

I suspect that nub is done for, but it is likely a new one will emerge after the plant has adjusted to repotting.

After reading this I went out to check on the little guy and the nub is still there! the death hasn't progressed any further and after tearing an almost dead leaf off the bottom of the pseudobulb I encountered another nub!

Sounds promising. Maybe can just keep an eye on the amount of water in the media. Can't tell for sure from the pics..... just looks quite wet right now.

It is kinda wet, however, through having this the past 2 months I have realized if you let it get dry like a Phal's roots it's KO on this one from experience

Zygos do need to stay on the damp side. While it may grow epiphytically in some places, it is more on the terrestrial side (like a Cymbidium)

Whatever you do, try not to wet the new growths when they start to show leaves.
