I have 3 oncidiums, all in the same general area of my patio that have something that seems to be gnawing away at the new growth. I live in S. Florida, so there are chameleons around, but I've never seen those little fellas eat anything green.
Hello Ray - I've never seen any of those critters around either, unless they only come out at night.
They do... especially slugs and snails (the former can be really good at hiding) When I see that sort of thing, I reach for my Sluggo Plus ... it has iron phosphate that goes after slugs and snails, and Spinosad that goes after caterpillars.
Snails yes. I find slugs sneakier. I often find them without the trails... and gladly remove and dispatch. I even find them in unlikely places like hanging plants... they do probably crawl down wires but maybe they fly...
