Is it fusarium?

Hi,
In June I got this cattleya, the media was completely dessicated and roots were rotten, so I repotted it... Got small root nubbins on newer pseudobulbs, but they started to die, tips turned black... Eyes are also rotting.... So, today I checked for fusarium, but I am not sure if it's positive. When I cut the Rhizome, I did not see any purple/red ring. But when I sprayed it with hydrogen peroxide it turned reddish brown. Can someone please help? Can this be saved?

I got a couple of Cattleya in bad media and they withered like yours before they turned the corner. Don’t spray the roots with hydrogen peroxide, that’s just going to damage any remaining living tissue.

If you can find it, get a kelp based root stimulant and soak the plant overnight. Then pot it up in appropriate media, water as needed, and wait. It took mine a few months to start pushing new growths and roots and the old growths have stayed shriveled, some dropped their leaves and a couple died. But, I’m seeing rapid root growth and new pseudobulbs so the plants are recovering.

I heard/read that some orchids have a purple ring naturally. So a particular observation definitely doesn't guarantee a case of 'fusarium'. And, of course, there are known cases where some youtube video people appear to have developed a case of fusarium paranoia. Normally, if good rule-of-thumb orchid growing procedures are followed ----- there's not going to be fusarium issues.

You mentioned that the media was dissicated initially. The main thing here is to then understand what happened afterward ----- eg. growing conditions that led to the rotting (after the new growth occurred).

Maybe applications of orchid systematic fungicide and bactericide applied prior to potting could/may help, and use clean media ------ like small (5 mm average diameter) scoria rock pieces ----- and good air circulation. The pseudobulbs appear to be of a size that's capable of providing energy for root growth. The main thing was to prevent rotting or more rotting.
