MY JAYBIRD 700 NEEDS A NEW MOTOR!
its well into the triple digits here. yesterday was 107, and we haven't seen the highest yet!
a bit over a week ago, we had to run to dallas, tx for doctors appt. the temps were just under 100. we were gone from dawn till dusk. everything in the greenhouse is automated except water, I like to do that by hand.
so, upon getting home, feeding cats first, then check gh….cats were noisey, so they get first attention. the mist machine was in trouble....the fan was furiously turning, no water coming out! I smelled trouble...you know, that smell
just before the motor blows?
I rushed and unplugged it and started checking. hydrostat working, check. water not plugged, check. opened it up, emptied the sump. turned the water on again, sump refilled. plugged in fan. motor on, no action. oh crap. now the motor seized up! reached for the oilcan....it would not turn.
so, that was Friday. Monday morning I called the company. seems the price of everything has gone up, the motor is now $165!!, and he suggested a pump as well, $45!! whoop!! I was not ready for that one! I was thinking like $100!!….
so here I am, running to the gh every hour wetting it down in this heat.....98 degrees, and less than 10% humidity, and I am running my feet off! got to come up with cash fast folks!! sooooo, IT IS CATTLEYA SALE AT NORA'S!! I just about always sell some on ebay, but now, I have to send some down the river!
if you have cattleya money and need something bad....you know, when your arms get itchy, and your mind starts racing, and you know its time for a serious floof fix, check the orchid sales at ebay, seller 'dounoharm'!!!!

I wish you luck! I cannot buy any more plants this summer as my shelves will be completely full this winter when the rest of the plants are brought inside for the winter. I have learned that I need to be careful not to over-buy during the summers when space is unlimited...from years of being overly stressed as to where I can fit the plants.

Look at the label on the FASCO motor for a model number. I might be able to get a better deal than $165.

Those numbers, I'm afraid, are insufficient to properly ID the motor model.
As far as the pump is concerned, Amazon has them in the $20-$30 range.

Based upon the information you specified, unless Jaybird has an OEM unit custom made, it looks like WW Grainger has it as either FASCO Model D215 ($113) or D220 ($111.30), depending upon the direction of rotation, but you'd have to remove the current motor and compare some dimensions from the FASCO catalog to confirm.

I am so disappointed in jaybird mfg, they used to want to fix things right away, and were very reasonable....this situation makes me want to quit recommend them to anyone....for the price, a 3 year lifespan is not practical....if I weren't in this thing for this amount, I am pressed. I will fix it, but I sure don't like it

I'm actually kind of surprised that it only lasted three years. Mine was in use about 15 years - and was still fine - when I sold the greenhouse and all of the equipment before moving.
Did you lubricate it regularly?
