Egg Crate
Just a question about the colour of egg crate (weird I know!)
All of the orchidariums I've seen use white egg crate. It's not easy to get egg crate in the UK, but black egg crate is significantly cheaper for some reason.
Is there any benefit to white over black egg crate?

I think he means egg crate ceiling panel for tube lights. Orchid people use them under pots to elevate them from trays and other surfaces. If so...
OP: I don't think I've seen black. I've seen silvery coating on black but not black. I suppose black would keep the environment warmer while white would reflect light. I doubt significantly either way.

Just for clarity, and you may already know this - the "egg crate" is not egg crate. It is the plastic grid hung under some styles of fluorescent light fixtures meant to be installed in ceilings. Here it is often used in kitchens.

No difference really except for looks... and perhaps functionality if seeing the flooring and anything on it clearer. It's ability to reflect light in white is minimal.

Coming from someone who has used it for years in trays...if black were available here i would get it because algae does grow in the trays and even with regular cleaning it stains the plastic after a couple/few years. Over the long term, it seems to me that the black maintain a cleaner appearance.
I can't see where it would make much difference in any other aspects.

Lucky you. Black is difficult to find in the states. I'm unaware of anyplace that sells single sheets. Minimum is a case of I believe 24 pieces.

I bought several single sheets at home depot here in Queens NY several years ago. I still have one whole sheet left over from my last terrarium build. It's such a pain in the a$$ to cut to the right size for me because I don't have or know what the proper cutting tool for this material is. Any ideas? Sorry for the .
