Any reviews for Mobility Quotient's light meter app on iTunes?

Curious how well it works.

As someone who is known to share good things with others on the web, they gave me a free copy to play with.

It seems like a nice app, but requires a diffuser to work properly. You make the diffuser by wrapping a piece of white paper over the top of the phone so it covers both lenses.. The trouble with that, besides the minor inconvenience of doing so, is that white paper comes in different weights (thicknesses) with different levels of brightness (coating levels), so not all diffusers are created equal and therefore, not all readings will be "calibrated".

If I remember correctly, they recommend 20# at 90 brightness. My standard stock here is 28#, 96 brightness.

However, they do offer a built-in way to calibrate it with full sun (I may try that today), so maybe the diffuser paper is less critical that I thought.

That said, if you use it for comparative readings - "I know this is good for catts, so how does that window compare?" - it's quite nice, although a "hold" capability would be nice.

They said they were working on a non-diffuser version, but I have not received an update since installing it last October.

This is the one I use- I compared it to an actual light meter from Amazon and it was very comparable with the diffuser paper. I returned the light meter.

I've used the Green thumb light meter for a couple of months now with my iPad. It only lists a few orchids with the suggested light level. But if you know how many foot candles you need for a given plant it seems very accurate. It uses the light meter in the camera on the iPad to determine the light level. I place the iPad in the spot I want to put my plant at several different times during the day to get an average light level. Then I know if it is a good spot for my orchid. It is working very well for me and is really easy to use

thats pretty cool for a light meter there DC. We have people who run the greenhouse's automated systems from the iPads and iphones now too...amazing still it is to me who hand waters and prunes his orchids while running with scissors
