I have a similar set up to this but with a 40 gallon reservoir. I have mine hooked up to a float valve too and use it when I'm home. I turn it off when I'm gone from the home for more than a day as I don't like the idea of a possible water leak while I'm away.

I'm curious about the fan pictured above....my five disc USH would soak that thing! Is it water proof?

As for USH using a lot of water...it uses no more and no less than any other humidifier. I found other humidifiers to be completely ineffective in my environment. The USH does use more water because it actually did the job, where the others wasted time and energy but little water and to no effect.
