FRIDGE
Default FRIDGE

Hello,

Do you know any system, which can reduce temperature during night ? As yet I use simply ice, but I plan to built larger orchidarium and I wish to it be more automatic.
If there is any possibility to connect small fridge ?

Please, write something or tell me the link to such article.

Best regards,
Piotr

Piotr - if you're very careful, you may be able to remove the cooling unit from a small refrigerator and them mount the "cooling" part of the circuit into the tank; more than likely though, you'll break the tubing somewhere and release all the coolant, which is not good.

You could also talk to a refrigerator engineer about building a custom component for you, but this would likely be quite expensive.

It's probably easier to modify a refrigerator into an orchidarium however.

I do remember a thread some time (years) back, where some one had rigged some sort of a connection between a small fridge and a terrarium. I'd have to look it up. Another person bought one of those refrigerated display cases you see in bakeries or even supermarkets, and turned the thing into a cold growing terrarium.

Thanks for all advise ! This system from Rob's page seems to work similar to air conditioner, which are quite cheap, but I would have problem with pipe with hot air - I am not able to make hole in wall or window.

you can get one them water cooled closed systems used for computers and modify it, some use antifreeze could be deadly if it leaks. others just chill water thru a closed loop..you can bury the tubing under the substrate.

you want come crazy cooling ability build this in your setup!!!

Engel’s new Fridge/Freezer Conversion Kit

another option i can see is run a glycol or antifreeze line that pumps thru a freezer and then thru your orchidarium, like in floor radiant cooling systems.

I believe that small chillers are made for aquarium use.
