Ross,
Wouldn't it be cheaper in the long run to just buy your own RO unit rather then renting one? If a person was to purchase the one from Costco, then they would break even in about a year, or is the Costco one not up to specification for orchids?

Nope! If you buy one, then you have to find filters, install filters, adjust the valves, install the unit, drill hole through top of sink for the proprietary faucet, worry about warrantee, etc. Who do you call if it quits? I bought my first one and went through all this, so I have first-hand experience. I went rental, cause warrantee is a non-issue. If somethings breaks or leaks or goes out of wack, Culligen fixes it. No added cost. My original Culligen RO unit cost like a couple hundred dollars. I went this way 'cause mine was up for major overhaul many years later. It would have cost me major dollars. I was to the point where service calls to replace filters and adjust pressure, etc. were costing me $175 per call. Just my opinion, of course.

Wow that was exactly the answer I was looking for...lol. you really shed the light on that one...I had know idea it could be that much of a pain...but I guess one doesn't know until they try. I guess that is why I was looking into the 5 gallon jugs...I will try and find time to do a break even cost analysis between the two...or better yet...maybe Culligan would do it for me

Culligen's not the "only game in town" and definitely not the cheapest route. But the least hassle. And I, personally, don't mind the cost every month.

I have seen prices of around $400 most places I have looked at. I don't know if I want to consider ebay on a purchase like this?

Regards, mary
Mary, what I mean is that 4 L. of water is used to produce 1 L. purified water. I see that some units are a 3:1 ratio and in another post here someone has a Watts zero wastewater unit (more expensive of course). It is also available from Costco.ca
