The filters are a papery material, and sodium hypochlorite is caustic (I deal with a variety of caustics and acids at work).

Yes, I understand that (I retired from the chemical industry), but caustic materials don't necessarily degrade paper ones. I like the earlier advice of "check with the manufacturer."
