My Spring and Summer setup
Default My Spring and Summer setup

Ahh... so jealous of people's tropical climate setups. I currently live in the upper Midwest US where there is lots of snow in the Winter so the orchids have to come inside. Also unstable living situation due years of training and moving for my career. I'm currently a resident physician. Just thought I'd share my small patio setup when the orchids move outside. Would love to see how other people do theirs.

Looking great to me! Especially for someone who's in residency.

No problem Cheddarbob14. Great to share. I've learned so much from these forums and other people on the web.

WaterWitchin, thank you. Some of these orchids have traveled across the country and lived with me in 4 different states. From sunny CA to arid CO to snowy MN, and now IA. Would be great to reward them with a nice greenhouse someday Or maybe I'll end up in one of those tropical climates and they can live in my backyard year round

I'm in New Mexico, a sunny state, but we still experience temperatures sub-optimal for orchids. Once the night temps hit 55F, they are out of the house. Most of mine are cattleya light lovers. The large green paphs, phrags, cattleyas, and mule ear oncidiums are outside, the mottled leaf paphs and phals stay in a window inside.

I had a "shade house" made out of a dog kennel, but the neighbors (our tenants) needed the kennel because their dog kept jumping the fence, and so I am stuck with a table now. It's under a tree, so they get waving shade. I am making a shade cloth frame like you have with PVC as we speak, but that won't really be needed till summer.

I try to keep my collection fairly small-- about 50 orchids. And I try to keep them within the same "care groups" so what I do to one will be good for all of them.

Nice set up. And well if wishes were fishes as my grandmother use to say. I'm sure you've heard the rest so I won't bore you
