Hoping everyone has had a good start to the new year.
Here's a few recent blooms from my yard.
A pure white Sobralia, might be my new favorite. Not sure on the ID so far.

Sobralia luteola, a lot smaller and less showy, but has the nice trait of putting on a continuous show for a few weeks instead of the typical few random days through out the year that most Sobralias bloom on.

A SVO plant I picked up that was labeled Ctsm. tigrinum x self. But I suspect it's mislabeled.

A pleurothallid with succulent leaves that I haven't ID'd yet.

A Maxillaria from the woods near my house.

The very common but very showy S. chrysostoma

I also picked up a few new orchids from a guy nearby.
a Lockhartia that's slightly different than the one I already have.

And a couple of Mormodes, I selfed the yellow one. Not a very common color, so hopefully I have some luck with germination.

I think that yellow one is the parent to the cychnodes jumbo puff I was looking at the other day.

Looking at the OrchidRoots page on Cycnodes 'Jumbo Puff' it's a Cycnoches warszewiczii × Mormodes badia cross. Mine is a Costa Rican native, so not M. badia, but very similar. I'm think it might be a yellow M. skinneri because the lip was fuzzy like is typical if that species. I'm going to be trying a bunch of inter-generic Mormodes crosses in the months to come. Hopefully I'll get some to germinate. I have a bunch of normal non hybrid ones that germinated well on some live posts so maybe hybrids will too.

Morning all, I'm having a very rainy Sunday morning. So I figured I should go through some the pictures I've taken around the yard in the last few months and share some.

I think this is a white petaled form of Sobralia wilsoniana.

And a couple not often seen in cultivation.
Sobralia rarae-avis, the flowers are nice but I like the mottled foliage a lot.

Epidendrum pendens, which has really cool grayish-green leaves and a deeply textured lip on the flower.

A nearly completely white-lipped Gongora that is from my own breeding efforts to get to a pure white one.

A Coryanthes that bloomed a few months ago and is almost ready to bloom again.

And an import Stanhopea jenischiana that bloomed for the first time in it's new mounted spot. I selfed two of the flowers and pollinated a couple S. wardii with it's pollen hoping to get some nice seedlings from them.

Well, the weather has been pretty rainy here lately making doing stuff outside less fun. but I've still had some nice blooms in the last couple months. Here's a few for you guys to enjoy.
An import Mormodes from SVO that I'm pretty sure was mislabeled. Almost looks like it might be M. badia.

A first time bloom from a Sobralia I got in a batch of divisions from a guy with a ton of different Sobralias.

I've had quite a few Prosthechea fragrans that have germinated for me and they are fairly variable. Most are typical of the wild ones I have but a few have more pronounced markings like this one. I may try to get a selective breeding project going to see how big and nicely marked I can get the flowers.

One of my favorite Epidendrums, which I'm still not 100% sure on it's ID.

A Dichea that I'm also unsure of it's ID.

One of two Cycnoches egertonianum that I have. The other has almost completely green flowers. Sadly I haven't gotten any female flowers so far.

One of the few hybrid Cattleyas I have, Blc Sally taylor Red wine x blc mount hood. I have a lot of problems with too much rain causing their leaves to rot. But I still get blooms.

Here's a little seedling that I think is a Myrmecophila tibicinis hybrid. This is the second year's P-bulb. Probably still 2 years away from potentially blooming.

And here's a Psychopsis krameriana growing mounted in a tree where you can sort of see a Sobralia fragrans blooming and a Stanhopea wardii with a seed pod in the background.

And last but not least, a cross between Epidendrum ciliare and Brassavola nodosa that I got to germinate on a coconut palm has bloomed for me for the first time. I tried selfing it and pollinating other orchids with it's pollen, but sadly it seems that the pollen is sterile. It's currently producing a seed pod from a pollination with B. nodosa.

I find it very interesting that the Brassoepidendrum Syliva White doesn't have a spotted lip, as do most B. nodosa hybrids.

Interesting observation I hadn't considered, even though I've talked with a breeder here in CR that told me he likes B. nodosa crosses specifically because of the spots they pass on to their progeny. So far the seed pod developing from a pollinating this with another B. nodosa seems to be developing well. My intention was to get the lip wider, but maybe spots will show up when it's 75% B. nodosa. With a bit a of luck, in about 3 years I'll know.

Here's some of what's been blooming around my yard the last couple months.
An Epidendrum Costa Rica, the second plant of this cross that I made that has bloomed for the first time.

Also a first time bloomer for me. Houlletia tigrina

An Aspasia that I think is A. principissa, though it seems to have more purple in the lip that most photos online.

A pink Gongora that I've wanted for a long time and finally found. Going to be usefully for hybridizing I think.

Caulathron bicornutum

I think this is Miltonia x bluntii, a natural hybrid from Brazil. Looks like a close match to photos online, though I got it as an unidentified trade with another orchid enthusiast.

Oncidium schroederianum, seemingly enjoying the cooler than normal weather we've been having.

A speckled Coryanthes. Really alien looking flowers.

And a couple miniatures, Specklinia costaricensis,

and an unidentified Stellis.
