That would be my hope too. I'm sure he'll check in when he can. Won't you OW also get the storms backlash? I thought you were down that way.

I really appreciate everyone's concerns! My family and my self are fine just doing some final preparations. I'm currently in evacuation zone B but have no plans in leaving. My house is built to code with hurricane proof glass, clamps, and trusses ( we also boarded up all the windows. Not to mention we built our house up to 15 feet above sea level.

The prayers are appreciated and I will be sure to keep everyone posted on what's going on down here!

Again I'm feeling the love and safe thoughts and it's greatly appreciated!

[QUOTE=Leafmite;852621]Hopefully, you are in a location where flooding and storm surges will not harm you and your home was built to withstand high winds and stuff crashing into it or you are protected from such winds in your location. If not, you should really consider going somewhere safer. I do not think anyone on the board wants to think of you being in danger. You, a person, are quite irreplaceable

I'm on the north side of the Caloosagatchee River so there is a possibility but not as high as everyone who lives in the islands in inland from the gulf is where the extreme danger is.

There was an update on its path. It's now forecasted to pass over FL west coast. It means you'll experience the highest speed winds in all the system.

Latest NOOA's update:
...IRMA CONTINUES TO POUND THE NORTH COAST OF CUBA... ...FORECAST TO RESTRENGTHEN WHILE HEADING FOR SOUTH FLORIDA AND THE KEYS...

I really hope you won't regret your decision. Good luck, my friend!

I hope you live through this extremely unwise decision.
All of those building features may give some protection from wind, but not drowning from storm surge or flooding. BTW, most of the hurricane codes protect up to Cat 3, but not Cat 4 or 5.

It is still possible to evacuate. Do so with family and pets, and stay alive.

Thanks for your concern.

We are forecast to get some heavy rain and 45 mph wind. I am about 100 feet elevation above the closest river and also above the level of nearby small streams. We could have some branches or trees damaged or down, and there is always the possibility of secondary storms (tornadoes, etc.). Still, we are in an area that you would evacuate to, rather than evacuate from. We may have damage, but otherwise are relatively safe.

vvesto said his family home is on the north side of the Caloosagatchee River, in evacuation zone B. The link I posted just above is to his county disaster agency. The authorities have not yet recommended that area be evacuated.

Another interesting (and useful) link: Potential Storm Surge Flooding Map (Inundation).

Vvesto, I am indeed praying for your safety throughout this horrific storm. I have family in St. Petersburg and a very good friend in the more northerly vicinity of the gulf coast. So far, all of them are choosing to ride it out at home. I am hoping and praying for the safety of all of you who are in the path of the storm.

About 2/3 of the B area north of the river, in Cape Coral, is also a mandatory evacuation area (Cape Coral south of Pine Island Road).
