A bout of insomnia had me heading outside to check for snails and I found these itty bitty tree frogs amongst my orchids instead. These cute little buggers just eat bugs, right? So I think we're cool

Yup. With very few exceptions, frogs and toads have the same definition of food. If it moves and they can make it fit in their mouth, it's food.

Tiny frogs, how cool! Lucky you, all I get are javelina and skunks, once in awhile a toad--but they're the poisonous kind and not nearly as cute as your frogs. Thanks for sharing them!

I just know I'm going to be sorry I asked this...do javelina eat orchids? My understanding is that they can be your equivalent of our white tail deer, except nasty.

I keep the orchids away from the areas the javalina visit, so I don't really know. They do eat a lot of different plants, but their very favorite thing seems to be knocking the pots over to look for grubs and worms underneath. Last year my neighbor planted a lot of tulips, then goofed and left his gate open one night. He said it looked like his yard had been plowed, and not one tulip bulb left!

Wish I had some little frogs...

Hah, I have an Orchid from Clown Alley Orchids. I'm guessing I didn't have quite as far to go to get mine, unless you had yours shipped.

Javelina destroy everything. They are far worse than deer. If the top doesn't taste good, or has spines, they uproot the thing and try the roots. They girdle trees eating bark. They eat above-ground parts. They uproot things with roots and eat whatever they can. They knock over shelves and trample on lower pots.

The only way they are better than deer is that they can be excluded by a 3 foot / 1 meter tall fence that has a foundation, or a wire fence of the same height that extends another foot / 30cm into the ground. Deer need a 12-foot high fence.

Javelina also stay away longer than do deer after being hit with a heavy, thrown obect. Pigs are much smarter than ungulates.
