Default cymbidiums outside?

I just got a great deal on a NOID cymbidium at a local garden center...and I'm kind of curious about planting or having it outside this summer.
Has anyone had any experience in the midwest planting/having cymbidiums outdoors? Any tips? :

It's a beautiful white. I don't think you could plant it outside in your area but you can definately jput it outside for the summer. They love the fresh air, sun, and rain. I'm the south and put mine under a shade house so it doesn't burn but as cool as you are s/b ok. Good luck - nice large plant.

Thanks Don! This cym has really been interesting so far! As the blooms have gotten older, the throat has been turning more pink.

Default Cymbidiums outside in the NORTH

I have 20 cymbidiums in a pergola covered with grape vines from May until hard frost. They seem to actually enjoy a light frost (above 28 degrees). Keep your pot off the ground.

Yeh, I agree with the other posts. I have never grown Cyms, but known a few people who did. When I was in southern Oregon, folks grew them outdoors year around. They are great with low temps, but sustained frost/freezing will kill them. I would say down to mid 30s (F) OK, below that not OK.

I winter mine indoors when it gets significantly below 40. Other than that it stays outside. Even in TX it does well - it just blooms in late summer to fall!?

Does Texas have winter? I just love Texas. Who doesn't, eh?
