All my Encyclias are mounted without any moss. During summer I water them once or twice a week at night. Watering at night means minimum evaporation.
After I mount my orchids I do water them somewhat more frequently. As the root system becomes more substantial/extensive I water less frequently. I can water orchids mounted on trees the least frequently because they can have the most extensive root systems.
For sure though Phoenix is hotter than Los Angeles. Then again, Phoenix is pretty much hotter than everywhere!
