Moving plants outdoors, early 2017 edition

Moved the first batch outside under the eaves. D. speciosum and kingianum, Cymbidium goeringii and a couple hybrids, and Dendrochilum quadrilobum. Being close to the house they're well protected from frost.

Mine never go out, even in summer, nights usually fall into single figures (C).

The plants you could grow........all those lovely high altitude Dendrobium, Dracula and Masdevallia you could keep!

I'm look forward to moving plants into the Shade House we built last fall... Last summer was our first with the full sun greenhouse and temps got way to high,, to often. Lost some orchids because of the high heat. Waiting for night temps to be in the 60s. That's the low temp set in the greenhouse..

Of course it depends on what you grow and where - there's no point putting Phals out for example as they're happy in the house, but OTOH most plants don't really like being indoors and will benefit from the light and fresh air in my experience. If you have a greenhouse or conservatory the benefits would be less I'd think.

My Cymbidiums have been out for a month, Stenoglottis two and I've just bought a Dendrobium kingianum which I've mounted and is outdoors. Not sure what I'll do with my Zygo and Brassidium but will probably put them out in summer.
