Have you moved your plants outdoors yet? Northern hemisphere, Spring 2016

Just wondering what & when people have started moving outdoors.

OK, it isn't officially "Spring" yet. My two Cymbidiums are likely the only two that I've moved outdoors that are likely to stay there. I have a Dendrobium kingianum and a Coelogyne cristata that move out into the cool/sunny on good days. I will probably move a few Cattleya types outdoors in a couple weeks but those will be on a "revolving door" basis as well.

Has anyone else started moving plants outdoors?

The answer depends on where you are. There are lots of different conditions and micro climates in the northern hemisphere. I have plants always outside (cymbs) and other that like the heat but here it's too hot and dry in the summer and too cold in the winter so I don't take them out. I could do it on spring but two months later I would have to move them again inside so... I'm lazy.

Yes, in dribbles. I move lots of stuff in and out so it takes a while. Cacti, succulents mostly. This winter I almost could have left them out and covered them, but we did have one week with significant overnight frost, so I'm glad I moved them in last fall.

Yes, all of my orchids are outside. It's been a very warm February, and one of my dendrobiums is happily making buds. My bletilla striata is also spiking and getting ready to start opening its flowers, so things are exciting around here.

In the non-orchid world, my lavender is getting ready to flower, too.

My cat destroyed my cimbidiums over the winter, but they are outside. It is still a bit too cold in South central New Mexico during the night for most of the orchids.

I won't even consider moving anything until late May except my 2 Cymbidiums. Those might go in early May!

Way too cold still here in NY, but on a blooming note..... My Helleborus and crocus are blooming in the garden. If it turns really cold again they will probably be toast. We have had such a warm Feb and usually when that happens we get a really cold March.

I envy those of you that only have a couple/few months of indoor only growing.

For me, it's same as Gngr and Silken. I won't be able to do any moving - safely - until late-ish May. I could probably put some of the cooler growers out sooner but when I move them...I want to move them all at the same time. So, I wait until it's safe for the warmer growers.

Just got some snow again, so nope. Actually my plants never been outside, tried with a few for some hours last year- didnt go very well.

Maybe I will try with some in the summer
