This is the white (alba) from of striata. We use to have both the purple and the white but when we moved the bed and dug them up two years ago. Only the whites made it. Both where repoted from garden soil into two gallon nursery pots with potting mix with extra perlite added. Have no idea as to why only whites made it. In the fall we let them go dormant and bring them into the unheated garage before the pots get frozen solid. And usually bring them back out when they break dormancy in late march or early April, and flower in late May early June. Since it has been so warm this winter so far, they are already broken dormancy (5 weeks ago) and are sending up spikes and may bloom before it is safe to bring back outside, late march. We don't trust the weather enough to bring them out now that they have flower spikes

What a joy when we found out we do still have the purple striata. Have two purple plants and spikes. Frist time they have ever bloomed in march.

Wow!! That's gorgeous!! I would love to have that in my garden. Passer's by might steal them though.
