I recognised a couple from my search- plants I really want- that was kinda fun seeing them in movie, not just pictures.

Oh- and the brassia- that really was awesome seeing on movie. So pretty when it grows a bit more wild like that- stunning

What are those? Looks like a dendrobium stem on stereoides, combined with lycaste.

Yes ma'am, that is a Catasetum-type orchid, this one is Mormodia Jumbo World from Sunset Valley Orchids here in the USA.

Things are starting to get exciting as Orchid Spike Season 2015 is well underway!

Orchids grow so well outdoors, but the pests and sometimes mechanical damage (from wind, falling branches, hail or a clumsy owner) are part of the reason I have decided to grow indoors mostly. Not to say I don't sometimes get critters, and I knock stuff over whether they are inside or out, but overall, outdoors can be blessing and a curse.

Keep an eye on your Amesiella, it's my understanding that they can sometimes bloom fairly young. Mine is producing a spike now. I'm not sure when it'll open, from what I gather, the spike and flower can take a long time to develop, and it's still quite small at this time.

Do you grow your Grande sitting in water? I have a similar cross, P. Super Grande, and it grows so much better when I keep it sitting in water.

I wholeheartedly agree with the blessing/curse dichotomy. My biggest, handsomest Cattleya rex seedling has just completed its newest pseudobulb. Large, luscious roots began pushing their way out a few days ago. Today, most of the new root tips had been viciously eaten away, in spite of the frequent doses of insecticide I had been applying. If it's not the bugs, it's the slugs.

A. monticola has impressed me with its resilience to the elements (and the bugs). I think it will be much happier when it comes in for a bug-free winter.

About Phrag Grande, that's an interesting idea. I've seen so many suggestions to sit the plant in water, but mine is not. I do water it nearly every day, though, and I'm pretty happy with the way it's growing this summer. Would sitting the plant in water cause the bark to start rotting or harboring fungus? I'm so paranoid about those things.

I saw a talk that included some phrags in habitat. A lot of them grow on rock faces where just a trace of organic matter accumulates, and water seeps down the rock all the time. Their roots grow across the rock face, always wet but always in the air and always with fresh water. Look it up. You're enterprising; I bet you can figure something out. Maybe involving one of those cat water fountains.....
