Got a "bunch" of Oncid and Catt inter-generics recently opened and getting ready to open.
When this flush of orchids are all open I'll post pics in another thread.

Visiting Oahu right now, and spotted some spathoglottis growing 'wild' at the Lyon arboretum. Apparently considered high risk for even becoming invasive, but nonetheless, beautiful!

We had a wind storm Valentine's Day.
We lost power for 3 days.
It was for 6 days after Iselle.
We also lost 3 more trees on our lot in this one.
One just stopped short of landing on our house.

I watched it fall and began cutting it up immediately in case it was going to actually come down on the house.
Note how the trees in the background are leaning to the left.
That is not their true shape.
They are leaning with the wind.

So, as I was cutting the tree up I saw this:

Two more weed Vandas I didn't know that I had.

I couldn't just throw them on the wood pile.
So, I saved 2 more weeds along with what's left of their situ.

I have so many of these weeds running around loose on my lot that I cannot see myself going to the trouble of finding a place and mounting them where I'd rather put something new in.

I am assuming that this is the parent plant, the one I saved after hurricane Iselle:

I think the two new orfinks are going to look like this one, no guarantees.
The only thing I'll say about them is that I think they are Vandas.
Again, no guarantees.

So, what I'm thinking is that instead of putting them into a gunny sack and throwing them off a bridge, I'll look for someone to take them, like kittens or puppies.

If there is any interest we'll discuss it further.
One caveat though, I will not ship anywhere other than the U.S.
I'm thinking of trying to include as much of their "situ" as I can, maybe a large one rate box?
If and how it work out remains to be seen.

Anyone with an interest in this?

Default Phaius' Gone Wild

I cleared a lot of ferns and weeds from our lot last summer.
One of those areas is where the Phaius in the previous photo on this page grew. I've just gone back through and re-cleared some of those areas again. My Phaius weed population is growing.
The one in the previous pic is now the stem with the seed pods just to the left of the middle flowering plant:

There are now 3 clumps started behind the Monstera deliciosa, plus many smaller new seedlings around the near and far flowering plants not seen in the photo.

Then, this one has started in an area where I cleared brush out front along the street:

I expect to see more here next summer.

And finally, a large group has begun in this location:

There should be a lot of flowering plants here next spring.

The weeds are overrunning me!

Default Serendipity

When they built the house on the lot just to the South of ours, they cleared the pad for the house and went over the property line at least 2 or 3 feet through about a 20' length. No big deal in itself.

But, in order to assure that small strip of land is not lost due to acquiescence and "squatters rights", I have been locating our corner posts and hacking my way through my "jungle" to brush and layout the property lines simply to assert ownership.

Just before breaking out into the "encroachment" area, I find this:

Two more Phaius' in bloom and a multitude of young ones that will bloom next year If I can get them some exposure to sunlight.
Actually there is a third one in bloom in the last pic.
But, I can't find it in the photo.
They are all on our side of the line from a few inches to several feet.
I now have another reason to assert our ownership of that strip.
You can see the "encroachment area" in the background of the last pic.

So cool to see them just growing like that on your property. What a great place to live.

(P.S. I can't see the first link either, only the pics posted directly in the thread. The URL it ends up at is Web hosting, domain names, VPS - 000webhost.com however no error on the actual page, just and advert for the hosting company.)

My apology.
The album software I have been using is many years old and is a bit clunky.
I had decided to try another album application and wiped everything from the website to install the new app.
It did not go very smoothly.
I gave up in frustration and went on to other things.
Then, I forgot about it.
I'll upload the old files after I get done with this answer.

EDIT:
the links in my 1st and 2nd post in this thread are to the same location and are now working again:
