This is the most dangerous time of year for Orchids

From September to November is probably the most dangerous time for Orchids in PR. The temperature drops slightly which is great, but we also get rain at night and late evening and the showers last more than 15 minutes, sometimes ore than an hour. During the summer there is never rain at night. Rain in the summer is like clock work, between 3-5pm and never lasting more than 30 minutes. Also right now snail populations are at an all time high for the year. I've seen thousands of baby snail, and atleast 50 adults, just tonight. Everything is trying to send out new growth before the winter, and all this new growth is very susceptible to rot.

On another note I have seen newly born coquis for the first time. SOOOOO Cute. They are about 1cm long. I saw 6 of them on my Bulbo blumei. I have noticed an increase in biodiversity in the yard since I added water features to the yard. I have seen a pair of cane toads, a ton of coqui, where there were almost none before. the added moisture attracts different butterflies.

All those coquis should cut down on the small insects on your plants! Too bad they are too small to eat snails.

Good luck with your orchids. It's not to bad here, just have to get everyone stashed in the house or greenhouse for the winter.

Here we go Kevin, had to take again half of the hanging orchids down due to the strong wind, that is suppose to be even worse tomorrow, not mentioning that it is raining like hell, all the way to our inside balcony door, everything is soaking soaking wet, and today was not even suppose to be rainy day, the rain is predicted for the whole weekend, so I do hope there won't be many plants I will loose:-(
