I put in 9b as it's the closest approximation to my local climate, freezes basically never happen here. It can get quite cold, with 1 or 2 winter nights at 5C, but they average between 7-10C. Winter is also fairly dry and short. However, many of the orchids could survive a freeze, especially the Australian natives and Coelogyne.

Thanks for the background. Sounds like wonderful weather! We average about 10 freezes a year and those you mention would be good. I've got some backup options if Mother Nature decides to be particularly nasty
