Best position for a lathe house? Male
Default Best position for a lathe house?

So, I'm considering building a lath house to house my orchids in during the warmer months. However, I'm unsure what location to build it in.

The two locations available would have their backside up against a wooden privacy fence. One location would have the open area facing east and the other would have the open area facing west.

I'm assuming that it would be best to allow the morning sun to hit the orchids, but then to shield them from the evening by using the privacy fence to block it.

Do you guys think this would be an accurate assumption?

Also, has anyone ever seen an Asian inspired lath house? That's what I'm trying to go for, but I am not finding pictures that match the architectural style I'm envisioning in my head.

i like the east facing idea as eastern sun never seems to be too much. just right. and an asian inspired one could have a shinto-shrine type frame

That is too funny that you stated shinto shrine frame, because that was exactly one of the ideas I was toying with. The other ideas were based off of the various stylizations of pagoda's, specifically the lantern pagoda's you would see throughout a garden.

Just an FYI, my house is mid 1920's arts and crafts style. So of course, japanese and chinese stylizations play wonderfully with the architecture of the house.

those might help. and you could just change the roof to whatever strikes your fancy maybe a shinto/pagoda shape could be combined into quite a nice design
