Eurythermal and Fragrant

In the eurythermal orchid thread...alessandro asked me about fragrance. The list I started compiling got longer and longer so I figured that the topic warranted its own thread.

Here are my fragrant orchids that have had no problem with at least 35F. Out of all my fragrant orchids...Laelia albida has by far my favorite fragrance. Unfortunately I can't describe it...can anybody? Encyclia citrina smells like lemons, Oncidium ornithorhynchum smells like chocolate/vanilla and Maxillaria tenuifolia smells like coconut. Right now I have two Dendrobium chrysotoxums in bloom...they smell like milk and honey. Cattleya nobilior is just finishing blooming...it smelled like cinnamon. Oncidium maculatum smells like...juicy fruit?

Ansellia africana, Brassavola cucullata/nodosa, Cattleya intermedia, Cuitlauzina pendula, Encyclia cordigera, Epidendrum parkinsonianum, Laelia purpurata, Neofinetia falcata, Osmoglossum pulchellum, Rhyncholaelia digbyana/glauca and Sedirea japonica are all fragrant. So are Dendrobium delicatum, kingianum, falcorostrum, gracilicaule, moniliforme, speciosum and Dockrillia pugioniformis. My Stanhopea jenischiana is very fragrant and I think probably so are most of the other Stanhopeas. Lycaste aromatica is of course fragrant...and surprisingly so is Bifrenaria inodora!

A few of them are more fragrant during the hottest part of the day while others, especially those with white flowers, are only fragrant at night. I'm probably missing a few and will add them when I remember.
