Default Late Posting - some cacti and succulents on 3-4-09

Some cacti and succulents in bloom on March 4, From left to right:
• Aloe africanus – plant - about 3 ½ feet across and 4 feet tall
• Aloe africanus – blooms
• NOID Aloes
• NOID Aloe – bloom
• NOID Euphorbia - plant
• NOID Euphorbia - blooms
• NOID cactus
• NOID cactus
Then, the last two pictures, an interesting South African plant with small bulbs (not really a succulent). It is totally dormant 9-10 months of the year, leaves gone, just bare gravel showing in the pot. I keep mine in its pot, beside the house in the hot sun, with NO water all summer (it gets some rain, “whenever”). It likes summer “baking”. In early February, green shoots start to show, and then it gets water while it is growing and blooming.
• Lachnelia – plant
• Lachnelia – blooms

Wow, cacti are just cool when they flower (too many spines for me though).

The cactus blooms are stunning! They look like tropical flowers. I love both aloe plants, I'd never seen them in bloom since it's plants that I can't grow outside here.
