BURRRRRR!! PLZ Help!

Sandy,

I only have one bulbo, but I didn't think it was very sensitive. It is kind of a monster plant. Anyway, I left it outside and covered it along with the guys who got left out last night and the night before and they seemed OK to me. It does have a bunch of spikes, so I guess time will tell if they make it. I sure hope so!

The bathtub idea came to only becuase I had about 4 vandas in my hands and I didnt' want to risk laying them down and roots snapping! That sound gives me nightmares! I also decided to use plastic hangers that have the little built in hooks to hold clothes on them, and that way I could get two plants in the same amount of space, and since the hook held them in place the heavier one didn't end up with a lighter vanda on top of it! I actually kind of like having them all inside like that....

I think tonight everyone else will come in though. I am too worried since they said it could be colder tonight and it was like 42 or 43 overnight here. Burrrr.....

I pulled the blinds down tonight. But now after seeing the weather report stating 41, plus winds, I'm heading out right now to put on the blankets, tarps, what ever the H I can find!! I didn't think it was going to be this cold!! YUCK!!!

I went out to cover babes up last night about 10:30, and I couldn't find anything to use! My husband gave away all of our 'spare' blankets over the summer (closet cleaning). And we didn't have a tarp! I just about took my bedding, and spare beds and covered them!! But I stayed warm, and my babies surely shivered

I'm heading to Lowes after work to find a couple of large tarps.

I don't know yet how they are, as I left the house @ 5:30 this morning, Freezing!
I'll find out how my babies took the cold with just the blinds down on them

Like this, only all the way down to the ground.




Hopefully, as 'snugly' as I have them, they stayed all warm and cozy

I wasn't really expecting it to be that cold. I like to push the limits on some, but I'd never leave them out in those temps on purpose. So, not brave -- just lucky.

I noticed that everyone was worried over that incredible cold snap before Halloween. I grow mine in shadehouses here in New Port Richey, all winter long. All kinds. Right down to near freezing. Last year it was 29F on that one freezing night, and all my orchids went on the ground and were covered with blankets...snug as a bug in a rug! Other than that, I place the baskets on the ground for middle 30's and light blankets on those I cannot. Even Phals go thru fine, and this was before I was told "they cannot take it" below 40F. Of course, if we ever had a freeze like 1989 (23F here just North of Clearwater) I would DIE and not know what to do! Greg
