It's so pretty Sue! Birds of paradise are one of my favorite plants, but the climate isn't good enough here. Maybe I should move to the south of France.
Two weeks ago I went to visit the botanical gardens of a nearby city, and they had a bird of paradise in a greenhouse that was HUGE! The greenhouse must have been 9-10 meters tall (around 30ft I think), yet the plant was touching the top! And the flower was gigantic, nearly 2 feet across!

That's beautiful! Years ago I had one, but it outgrew my house. I traded it back to the greenhouse from whom I bought it - they gave me an orchid - and it went to live in a retirement home. I still miss that plant!

Camille, they do well indoors if you have enough light. I had one in Germany, facing a south window... The plants is still alive (and still living in Germany with my Ex)... it's huge now and blooms regularly in Nov/Dec. he has had to divide the plant several times and give divisions to friends.
There is also "dwarf" cultivar, which is also very nice and can make it better on the windosill... Ask in HollandBloemen (HollandBlumen in DE) they use to sell it at least 5 years ago..
