Dendrobium moniliforme. I have heard that growers in japan put little woven 'hats' on the trees where they grow to stop the snow settling in the canes.

I grow in West Texas outside in summer Dendrobiums like Hancockii. Phalenopsis like the heat and I have had no problems with them. Cattleyas. Warm growing Cymbidiums. Onicidium and their intergentics. I grow in a makeshift green house, and all it does is shade them form the brutal sun we get. They grow well over humidity trays. I even grow Pragmipediums outside in summer. In winter I carry some out during warmer days and in at night . I call it the Texas two step in and out during winter.
